Iowa fans get just one year of Kaleb Johnson's magic as he declares for the NFL Draft
Kaleb Johnson is the reason the Iowa Hawkeyes have a semblance of an offense this season. His speed and athletic ability to run the ball were electric against opponents, especially when the Hawkeyes had such. questionable time at the quarterback positions. Sometimes, Johnson was the only one to score for the Hawkeyes making him the biggest part of the offense all season long.
Well, to the dismay of Iowa fans, Johnson has decided to test the waters and take his talent to the NFL. Two days after Iowa took down rival Nebraska, the star running back took to social media to announce his intention to declare for the NFL Draft.
In his message on social media, Johnson was heartfelt and thankful for everything Iowa, his coaches, teammates, and the fans gave him and he will cherish his time there forever.
"As I write this letter, my heart is filled with gratitude and appreciation for the incredible journey I've experienced as a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes," Johnson said in his announcement.
Johnson started the season as a backup running back with Leshon Williams as the starter, but the two were set to share snaps fairly evenly. However, with Williams getting injured just before the season started, Johnson was thrust into the starting role and made the most of his opportunity.
The junior running back finished the season with 1,537 rushing yards and 21 rushing touchdowns, breaking the school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single season. He was also useful in the passing game 188 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Johnson finished fourth in rushing yards in all of college football and fifth in rushing touchdowns.
Johnson probably will not play in the Iowa Bowl game to get ready for the 2025 NFL Draft. Best of luck to Johnson in the pros!
