The Iowa program's success on the recruiting trail continued after signing 22 prospects in the 2026 class.

Iowa had a stellar recruiting cycle, including nine players who were from local Iowa high schools.

According to Rivals, the Hawkeyes did so well that they earned a top-25 recruiting class and ranked No. 7 in the Big Ten.

Iowa will lose a lot of veteran leadership and will have holes to fill at multiple positions, and having such a solid recruiting class is a welcome sight.

After early signing day, Iowa got another pleasant surprise from the recruiting trail as another local prospect decided to stay home.

Iowa City West High School product Ethan Headings decided to stay home in Iowa City after announcing his commitment to the Iowa program.

Headings was initially committed to North Dakota before he decommitted and decided to join Iowa.

According to Sports Illustrated, Headings had a breakout season for the Iowa City West Trojans after waiting his turn behind multiple talented players his junior season.

During his senior season for the Trojans, Headings compiled 1,202 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns as a wide receiver, while also adding 46.5 total tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss.

Headings was recruited by the Hawkeyes on the defensive side of the football.

Headings broke out for the Trojans late, causing him to be unranked by both Rivals and 247Sports.

He joins a recruiting class with two other Iowa City prospects, including linebacker Julian Manson and offensive lineman Colin Whitters.

If prospects did not sign on early signing day, they have another opportunity to sign during the only transfer portal window in January.
