Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has not been shy about recruiting in-state prospects and building them up through the program.

Ferentz does not often go for the home run ball on the recruiting trail, but he tries to get a steady flow of Iowa prospects to build around.

Alongside his passion for recruiting and developing in-state prospects, Ferentz loves to recruit multi-sport athletes so he can use that athleticism on the football field.

Some of Iowa's best linemen were football players and wrestlers in high school, including former offensive linemen and current NFL stars Tyler Linderbaum and Tristan Wirfs.

Philadelphia Eagles defensive back and former Hawkeye Cooper DeJean was also a multi-sport athlete in high school, excelling in football and basketball.

Before the 2025-2026 college football season begins, a top in-state tight end prospect set a date to visit the Iowa program.

Jevyn Severson, a six-foot-five, 230-pound tight end prospect from Madrid, Iowa, scheduled a visit to Iowa City on October 18 during an Iowa home game against Penn State.

The time for the game has still not been set, but Severson will get the chance to see the Hawkeyes battle a highly-ranked Penn State team at Kinnick Stadium.

Severson is one of a few players that is already ranked for the 2028 recruiting class, and is a highly-touted state of Iowa prospect.

Severson is a multi-sport athlete for Madrid High School, starring in football, basketball, and track for the Tigers.

247 Sports has ranked Severson as a four-star prospect, Iowa's No.1 prospect, the No. 2 tight end prospect, and the No. 61 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class.

Rivals Industry ranking has also ranked Severson as a four-star and Iowa No. 1 prospect, but ranked him as the No. 3 tight end prospect, and the No. 81 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class.

The Iowa program hopes its reputation as "Tight End U" for sending tight ends to the NFL entices Severson to commit to the Hawkeyes.
