Multiple Hawkeye Athletics programs wrapped up the final weekend of May with a bang. Here are the three big headlines from the weekend's action.

Peyton McCollum signs with Iowa Men's Basketball

A prospect with a familiar name joined the Iowa Men's Basketball program as a part of the 2025 recruiting class. Peyton McCollum, Head Coach Ben McCollum's oldest son, committed to the Hawkeyes over the weekend.

Before committing to the Hawkeyes, Peyton was a key contributor for Waukee Northwest High School in Waukee, Iowa. During his senior season, Peyton averaged 13.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

After guiding Waukee Northwest to a 22-4 record and a State Title game appearance, the Iowa Professional Sports Writers Association named Peyton a First Team All-State selection.

Peyton will join the squad next season and aims to play a significant role in his father's first year in Iowa City.

The 4x400 meter relay team is headed to NCAA Championships

The Iowa 4x400 meter relay team punched its ticket to Nationals after a solid race at the West First Rounds qualifiers.

Tyrese Miller, Zidane Brown, Josh Pugh, and Terrick Johnson ran 3:03.88 and finished second to Arizona State in their heat. Pugh stepped in as a substitute and ran a stellar third leg to keep the team afloat.

Another big story from the weekend was senior Kalen Walker. Walker ran a personal-best 9.94 100-meter race, setting a school record and placing sixth in the world this year for the 100-meter dash.

Michael Caliendo is the Under-23 National Champion at 74 Kg

Iowa wrestler Michael Caliendo dominated at the Under-23 National Championships, winning the title at 74 Kg. Caliendo lost his first match 7-2, but won his next eight matches to capture the title.

The win also qualifies him for a spot on the USA World team.

Before winning the title at 74 Kg Caliendo was a force for the Hawkeyes last season. He finished the season with a 24-3 (14-1 in duals) record and was the NCAA Runner-Up at 165 pounds. Caliendo will look to continue his success next season as a senior for the Hawkeyes.
