Former Hawkeye Hannah Stuelke is off to a stellar start in her pro career after surprising going undrafted in the 2026 WNBA Draft.

Stuelke was one of Iowa's top players last season, forming a dynamic duo with center Ava Heiden. Stuelke averaged 13.4 points and a team-leading 9.0 rebounds per game, earning an All-Big Ten Second-Team selection from the coaches and media. She was a staple of the program for all four years, but her pro career was in limbo after no WNBA organizations took a chance on her. Luckily for Stuelke and Hawkeye fans, Longiman Broni in Italy's Serie A gave her a chance, and it has paid off.

Stuelke had a stellar home debut in a Broni loss

Stuelke finished her Iowa career with 1,565 points and 910 rebounds, making her one of only four players in program history to score 1,500-plus points and grab 900-plus rebounds. It is strange that no WNBA organization considered bringing her in, even on a training camp invite, creating some doubt about her future in pro basketball. It's only been two games, but Stuelke has been a solid addition after two starts.

Broni has started the 2026 season 0-2, but Stuelke has earned a starting spot and played well. She dropped 16 points and grabbed five rebounds against Reyer Venezia, bumping her season averages to 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds on 63 percent shooting. She remains a force in the paint, as shown by her shooting percentage, and has made an immediate impact with her paint scoring and rebounding. She is second on the team in rebounds and third in points per game, and the season is still very early.

For Hannah to get a chance stateside, she still needs to improve her free-throw shooting (36 percent) and develop a consistent mid-range shot. She is a force in the paint, but that isn't uncommon in the WNBA. The WNBA is full of well-rounded athletes, and she'll need more offense to carve out a role. No one is asking her to suddenly become Caitlin Clark, but she needs to improve her offense to keep opponents honest with a reliable jump shot.

Scoring 16 points in a professional game is no small feat, and it will be interesting to see how she develops as the season progresses. Hannah is an extremely hard worker and will do what it takes to improve her game. Whether she gets a WNBA chance or not, Iowa fans will always remember the good times she had with the Hawkeyes.
