There are a lot of question marks surround the new-look Iowa Men's Basketball squad this season.

After firing long-time head coach Fran McCaffery, the Iowa program had only two players left on the roster: Cooper Koch and Jacob Koch.

Iowa also lost all future prospects when McCaffery left.

New Head Coach Ben McCollum and his staff added four players in the 2025 recruiting class, including Peyton McCollum, Trevin Jirak, Tate Sage, and Trey Thompson.

Thompson was initially a member of the 2026 recruiting class, but re-classified to the 2025 class so he could enroll at the University of Iowa early and join the program.

Eight of the 14 players on the roster are underclassmen, and Thompson is the youngest player on the squad at 17 years old.

Even though he is only 17, Thompson has impressed his teammates and coaches and is looking to make an impact anyway he can this season.

During a portion of his availability during media days (posted by "247Sports"), Thompson knows he is the youngest on the team, but stated he wanted to come here early so he could prepare for later on.

Thompson stated that he was heavily recruited in high school, but McCollum and his staff made an impact on him because they all seemed like best friends, and he appreciated that.

He is a versatile forward with a diverse skillset, but he is ready to help in any "way, shape, or form."

Thompson does not know what his role will be this season, but he wants to bring the energy every night, and as the youngest player, he wants to challenge the older guys to get better every day.

He knows what he can bring to the court and has the most energy on the team. If he can help the team get better in any way, that is what he strives to do.
