Former Iowa Football star and NFL veteran offensive lineman Brandon Scherff has had a busy summer ahead of the 2025-2026 NFL season.
The former Hawkeye lineman was a free agent after spending the last three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Scherff was a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes Football program from 2010 to 2014, winning the Outland Trophy in 2014.
Scherff had an interesting path to stardom for the Hawkeyes after joining the program from Dennison High School in the small town of Dennison, Iowa.
At Dennison High School, Scherff began his career as a quarterback before moving to the offensive and defensive lines during his final two seasons.
Scherff was a gigantic human being in high school, standing at six feet five inches and weighing 295 pounds, and realized his true calling was as a lineman.
Following a redshirt year in 2010, Scherff was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team in 2011 and continued to improve every season.
Following a dynamic Iowa career, he was inducted into the University of Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.
It was expected that Scherff would enter the Hall at some point, but what was unexpected was the announcement he made during his induction.
Long-time NFL guard Brandon Scherff, upon being inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame, recently acknowledged what teams were told this spring: That heβs retired.
