The Iowa Hawkeyes Football program is well-represented in the NFL. Since Kirk Ferentz took over the program in 1999, Iowa has had 89 players drafted into the NFL.
Former Iowa Hawkeye and current Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson was the first to sign a new deal. Jackson signed a three-year, 57-million-dollar contract extension on February 28. Two of Iowa's other former players are awaiting new NFL deals as the NFL free agency period is in full swing.
Brandon Scherff, guard (unrestricted free agent)

Former Iowa Hawkeyes guard Brandon Scherff has carved out a nice ten-year career in the NFL after being drafted fifth overall by the Commanders in 2015. Scherff was a high school quarterback before transitioning to the offensive line in his junior season.
Scherff spent his first seven seasons in Washington before signing a massive three-year, 49.5 million dollar contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021.
Scherff has been a reliable starter for the Jaguars but never lived up to the massive deal he signed with them. He can provide serviceable skills and leadership to any NFL team that offensive line help. He is ranked as the No. 82 out of 101 best-available free agents by ESPN.
Chauncey Golston, defensive end (unrestricted free agent)

Six-foot, five-inch big man Chauncey Golston is also looking for a new NFL contract. The former Iowa Hawkeyes defensive end was a third-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. He was a backup for his first few years in Dallas but has made 16 starts over the past two seasons.
Golston had his best statistical season in 2024 after he made 13 of a possible 17 starts at defensive end. He racked up five and a half sacks and 56 combined tackles during the 2024 season. He is ranked as the No. 93 of 101 best available free agents by ESPN.
The NFL free agency negotiation period began Monday, March 10, and ends on Wednesday, March 12, at 3:00 p.m. Central Time.
