The floodgates continue to open for the Iowa Men's Basketball program. The Hawkeyes are up to six players who have entered the transfer portal after Head Coach Fran McCaffery was fired.

The list of players to transfer includes Iowa star forward Owen Freeman, Brock Harding, Pryce Sandfort, Riley Mulvey, Josh Dix, and now, freshman forward Cooper Koch.

Koch became the latest player to enter the transfer portal. He thanked Coach McCaffery and the coaching staff for allowing him to play in Iowa City.

Koch missed most of the 2024 season after suffering an undisclosed illness. In 10 games for the Hawkeyes, Koch averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

The six-foot, eight-inch Koch can stretch the floor with his three-point shooting ability. In limited minutes, he knocked down 42.9 percent of his three-point field goals.

Koch was a heavily recruited prospect coming out of Peoria, Illinois. He was ranked as a four-star recruit before arriving in Iowa City. He earned a media All-First Team selection during his senior season after averaging 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Koch finished fifth in voting for the Illinois' Mr. Basketball award and was ranked as the No.2 recruit out of Illinois.

He is a legacy Hawkeye after his dad, J.R., played for Iowa from 1995-1999.

There is one bright spot for Iowa Hawkeyes fans. Koch left the door open for a potential return to Iowa City after he goes through the transfer portal process.

The Hawkeyes are up to a half-dozen players who have entered the transfer portal. They need to hire a head coach as soon as possible to stop the bleeding.
