The Indiana Fever continues to navigate life without star guard Caitlin Clark on the floor. Clark has not played since May 24 when she suffered a left quadricep strain during a game against the New York Liberty.
When she was asked about her injury, Clark could not pinpoint when she suffered it, and stated that "adrenaline covers up a lot in the heat of battle."
Before suffering the quad injury, Clark led the team in points per game (19.0) and assists per game (9.3). Her 9.3 assists per game also led the WNBA.
The Fever have struggled without her, losing two of three games, and will face a tough test against the Chicago Sky at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday.
Clark spoke to the media on Thursday during practice for the first time since her injury to provide a status update.
The Fever superstar was peppered with questions regarding her status and when she would return to the court. Clark noted that she and the medical staff do not want to put an exact date out there because it is a "day-to-day thing."
She is using this experience to grow and learn, even if it has been difficult to watch from the sidelines.
Clark noted she has never been patient, but she is using this opportunity to grow and learn, and she believes she has done that. She misses practice and going head-to-head with her teammates, but she is focused on being a good teammate until she can return to the court.
She said she has made a lot of progress and feels good, but does not want to rush back from her injury. This weekend, she will be re-evaluated by the medical staff and get a clearer picture of a timeline for her return.
Until she returns, Clark is focused on being a good teammate and leader for her team.
"Just focusing on being a really good teammate. Being there for them. Being a voice for them."Caitlin Clark, Indiana Fever guard
