Sometimes, the grass isn't always greener on the other side, and the weather definitely isn't as sunny.

A rising star assistant coach, Ladell Betts, left Iowa City for the NFL before the start of last season after many successful years with the Iowa program

Betts was a long-time high school football coach before joining the Iowa staff in 2021, and he was the driving force behind Iowa's success in the running game.

Running backs like Tyler Goodson, Kaleb Johnson, and Kamari Moulton all succeed at Iowa under Betts' tutelage, and after one year in the Big Apple, Betts is heading for sunnier weather.

Ladell Betts is heading to the Miami Dolphins

After spending last season with former Hawkeye Tyrone Tracy Jr. and dynamic former Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo, Betts is headed south to join new head coach Jeff Hafley and the Miami Dolphins.

According to the Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, Betts is one of multiple new hires by the Dolphins organization after overhauling the coaching staff.

Hafley, like Betts, quickly rose through the coaching ranks and, after two successful seasons with the Green Bay Packers, became the head coach with Miami.

Betts now has the opportunity to work with a talented Dolphins' running back room that includes Devon Achane, Jaylen Wright, Ollie Gordon II, and Donovan Edwards.

Under Betts' leadership last season, the New York Giants ranked fifth overall in total rushing yards in the NFL (2,195), averaging 129.1 rushing yards per game (4.3 yards per carry).

Now with an even more loaded running back room, Betts is set up to have a big year with the Miami Dolphins' offense, and Hawkeye fans hope to see him succeed in his new endeavor.
