The short-handed Hawkeyes took care of business at home against Western Illinois on Wednesday night.
While it was not the prettiest game at times, Iowa found ways to win by having new faces step up while other players were out with injuries.
Freshman phenom Addie Deal had her best game to date on Wednesday night, leading the team in points (17) and assists (five) after seeing an expanded role.
Fellow freshman Journey Houston also provided some good minutes off the bench, adding three points and five rebounds.
Seldom-used Callie Levin also made a solid contribution with six points and three rebounds.
The Hawkeyes were without starting point guard Chit-Chat Wright (upper body), and reserves Emely Rodriguez (back) and Teagan Mallegni (tonsils).
Head Coach Jan Jensen gave an update on the trio of injured players.
Jan Jensen says that Chit-Chat Wright and Emely Rodriguez are both day-to-day.

Teagan Mallegni will be out for about a week.
According to Kyle Huesmann of the "Hawkeye Report", Jensen stated that Chit-Chat and Rodriguez are day-to-day, while Mallegni will miss at least a week.
Chit-Chat is still dealing with the effects of the injury she suffered against Baylor and Rodriguez tweaked her back in the win over Miami.
Mallegni is out due a procedure she had to remove her tonsils.
Iowa found ways to win without the trio of players on Wednesday night and has some time before it takes on Fairfield at home on Sunday afternoon.
Wright could miss her third straight game, and Rodriguez could miss her second straight game if they are unable to play in Sunday's game.
Sunday's game against Fairfield is the Hawkeyes' final tune-up before they head to Piscataway, New Jersey, to take on Rutgers in their first Big Ten game.
