It certainly wasn’t pretty, and maybe not the most deserved, but it was a win. Here are five observations from the Iowa football team’s victory over ISU.

What a game. WHAT. A. GAME. For 60 minutes (or more like 360 minutes with rain delays), the Iowa football team battled their in-state rival Iowa State, and despite Iowa State looking like the better team, the Hawks squeaked out a victory 18-17.

As I said, Iowa State looked like the better team. They were moving the ball with ease throughout the game against a depleted Hawkeye’s secondary that was missing four of it’s top six defensive backs. And the Iowa football team just couldn’t capitalize on their own drives, instead, settling for four field goals.

But on the heel of a bizarre punt return snafu by the Iowa State Cyclones, the Hawks grabbed the ball and ran out the clock for a win.

Iowa didn’t deserve to win that game, but great teams find ways to win even when they aren’t the better team that day, and that is exactly what the Iowa football team did.

Here are my five quick observations from the game last night.
