The Iowa football team has been hot on the trail of four-star tight end recruit Theo Johnson, and it sounds like he will be visiting the Hawks in October.

The Iowa football team already has a pretty impressive 2020 recruiting class that is ranked 24th in the nation and 4th in the Big Ten, but that hasn’t stopped them from pursuing one of the top prospects in the class, tight end Theo Johnson.

Johnson is a 6’6” 240-pound tight end that is currently ranked 95th overall in the nation and 3rd amongst tight ends. At his size, he ran a 4.67 40-yard dash (which is faster than Hockenson ran at the combine) and jumped 35 inches in the vertical. This kid is physically ready to play college football right now, and college coaches have been salivating over his potential.

He currently holds 24 offers but has narrowed his list of potential schools down to 7, and the Iowa football team is firmly in the mix for his services despite having two commits at the tight end position already.

While many probably thought the staff wouldn’t continue their pursuit, I strongly argued for it, and it appears they have as he has released a tentative list of fall visits this year.

For those of you keeping score at home, that puts Theo Johnson in Iowa City for the Iowa versus Penn State game, and I love it.

Penn State is the team most analysts predict Johnson to sign with so having him come to Iowa City for that game could be a huge positive if the Iowa football team can dominate the Nittany Lions. Regardless of the outcome, it will be a huge event as it’s undoubtedly Iowa’s toughest home contest of the season.

But what excites me the most is that four-star 2020 quarterback recruit Deuce Hogan will also be visiting Iowa City that weekend, and if we have learned anything so far, it’s that Hogan is a fantastic champion of the Iowa football program. And you better believe he will be selling Johnson hard on the possibility of playing together along with Elijah Yelverton and Luke Lachey.

If the Iowa football team manages to pull this off and secure a commitment from Johnson, it will be the icing on the cake for a fantastic recruiting class and it would give the Hawks possibly the best tight end recruiting class ever.
