Sam and Joey Hauser

Alright, I lied, there are actually four possible transfers, but really it’s three separate recruiting efforts because the Hauser brothers will be playing together wherever their next stop is.

The brothers were both four-star recruits coming out of high school and were instrumental pieces of Marquette’s outstanding 2018-2019 season where they were a #5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Sam led the team in rebounding with 7.2 rebounds a game and was also second on the team in scoring with 14.9 points per game while Joey was third on the team in scoring (9.7 points per game) and second on the team in rebounding (5.3 rebounds).

This brother duo would be huge for the Iowa basketball program. Sam stands 6’8” 225 pounds and plays forward, but much like the Hawks other big men, he can step back and shoot the three, hitting 40% of his shots from behind the arc this season while attempting 6.4 threes a game.

Sam’s younger brother Joey is an inch taller at 6’9” and five pounds heavier at 230 pounds, but is also adept at shooting the three. In his lone season with the Golden Eagles, the younger Hauser hit 42.5% of his three-point attempts on 3.1 attempts a game. He’s also a skilled passing big man, dishing out 2.4 assists a game (second best on Marquette).

The only downside of both of these guys is that each would have to sit out a season. Once they are eligible again, Joey would have one year remaining and Sam would have two.

Now you may be wondering why we’re going to such lengths to sell these guys, and that’s a great question that can be answered simply.

These brothers are interested in the Iowa basketball program.

According to Jim Polzin of Madison.com, the brothers are visiting UW, Iowa, Virginia, and Michigan State. Scheme-wise, these two would be great in all of these systems, especially Iowa’s, but if they don’t pick the Hawks, I sure hope they don’t pick UW or Michigan State either. That might be a tough sell though considering they are from Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

The only other issue I forsee is scholarships. As far as I can tell, this would leave the Iowa basketball team with one too many scholarship players, but considering two of those guys are Fran’s sons, I’m sure something can be worked out for the betterment of the team.
