Iowa Hawkeyes club hockey is back in action for another exciting season. Here is a recap of the Ice Hawks season to this point.

The start of the NHL season has begun but the Iowa Hawkeyes club hockey team already started on September 14th. I have been a hockey fan for almost 25 years. Yes, I am old, but when I found out that the University of Iowa had a hockey team I was ecstatic! Now for a little bit of info on the team.

The Ice Hawks are a club team, and here is a little recap of my last article about the team. The Iowa Hawkeyes hockey team is a club team consisting of non varsity players that make up the team, and they were formed in 1974.

They play at the Coral Ridge Mall ice rink, but there is a new arena being built in Coralville, which would be perfect for a division 1 team. The university, however, doesn’t have any plans to house a division 1 team so the Ice Hawks will remain a Division 2 team. The Ice Hawks play against other D2 club teams within conferences.

The Ice Hawks have started this season off to a 2-0-1-1 record. Head coach Kevin Brooks has taken this team to a hot start, hopefully gaining some traction and having this team make the move to Division 1 status. Despite this hot start, he still needs the backing of sponsors and donors to keep this team going.

Captain Devyn Kelley and Assistant Captain Devin Decker both lead the team with 7 points. In the last game against Robert Morris University, the Ice Hawks came away with a 5-4 victory.

As the season goes on I would like to follow this team a little more closely. Their next game is Friday October 14th in Ames against The Iowa State Cyclones, and the next home game is October 13th at Coral Ridge ice rink.

Please come out and support the team. If nothing else, make sure to follow their season here. I hope to keep everyone informed about this team on a weekly basis going forward. If you love hockey or want to learn more about it, you should go watch them play because they’re a fun team to watch!

As always go Hawks!
