Even though the Iowa defense has struggled at times this season, the unit overall has remained stout

The Hawkeyes' defense ranks No. 8 overall in total defense, allowing only 267.9 yards per game, while also ranking in the top ten in rushing defense and passing yards allowed per game.

Iowa ranks No. 8 in scoring defense (14.8 points per game), No. 12 in passing yards allowed per game (166.3), and No. 14 in rushing yards allowed per game (101.6).

After a few rough games against Oregon and USC, the defense kept the Hawkeyes in a hard-fought game against Michigan State last weekend.

A strength of the Iowa program this season has been both the offensive and defensive lines, anchored by multiple veteran leaders.

While both units have excelled on the field, a defensive lineman is earning recognition for his work on and off the field.

Defensive lineman Aaron Graves has been named a finalist for the Pop Warner Award after excelling in the classroom and on the field.

The Pop Warner Award has been presented annually since 2010 to student-athletes who excel in the classroom, in the community, and on the field.

Graves graduated in 2024 with the highest distinction after completing his Bachelor's Degree in exercise science in just two years with a 4.03 GPA.

He also does exemplary work in the community with six different charities and organizations in the Iowa City area.

Graves has been a force for the Hawkeyes on the field as well this season.

Through 11 games, Graves has tallied 34 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, and an interception.
