Tony Diaz took a subtle shot at Jimmy Rogers after torching the Iowa State secondary

Another game, another dynamic display by wide receiver Tony Diaz.

Diaz built up a ton of offseason hype with his eye-popping catches and infectious personality, and he quickly lived up to it in week one against Northern Illinois. The Iowa offense targeted Diaz a team-leading 13 times, leading to Diaz putting up 87 receiving yards and a touchdown against an overmatched NIU secondary. Before facing Iowa, new Iowa State coach Jimmy Rogers made a catastrophic flub when he talked about Diaz, and he isn't going to live it down anytime soon.

Diaz continued his excellent form from the week one victory, carrying it into a much tougher matchup in week two. With the Iowa running game getting shut down for most of the game, Iowa was forced to throw it more, resulting in more opportunities for Diaz and the rest of Iowa's talented receiving group. Diaz finished with 95 receiving yards on eight catches and immediately put Rogers on blast after his performance and an Iowa win.

Diaz gave Iowa State their flowers by calling them a "great team," but immediately followed that up by saying he hopes he knows his name now. It's Tony Diaz, not Nate Diaz. It is one thing to mispronounce a name, but as the head coach and the situation surrounding one of Iowa's top players on the scouting report, you can't make a laughable mistake like that. Diaz clearly isn't letting him forget it, and neither should we. Rogers is a good ball coach and has passion for the game and for his team, but you simply cannot get that wrong. If the shoe were on the other foot, Kirk Ferentz would never hear the end of it, and we hope Rogers doesn't for a very long time (hint, hint, RayGun).

Diaz has backed up the preseason hype with two solid performances, and he is poised to have another against Northern Iowa. The Iowa offense has clearly made Diaz a focal point, and that will likely continue until teams find ways to take him out of the game. Even if other teams limit Diaz's production, the Hawkeyes are blessed with multiple weapons on the outside, and Diaz knows it. He isn't worried about being at or near the top of the scouting report, because he knows they have a lot of other dudes. Reece Vander Zee, Jarriett Buie, Evan James, Dayton Howard, Addison Ostrenga, and DJ Vonnahme are all some of the many options Iowa has, and they have yet to unlock their full potential in the passing game.

Diaz has clearly established himself as Iowa's go-to receiver and the No. 1 outside option, but that doesn't mean he is the only one. Iowa has options across the board and has showcased that if the running game struggles, they aren't necessarily going to lose. A few years ago, Iowa wouldn't have stood a chance airing it out 30-plus times, but they have that option available to them this season.

For now, Iowa will continue developing the passing attack, regardless of who is under center, and Jimmy Rogers better know Tony's name from now on.
