The legendary coaching career of Tom Brands reached another impressive milestone.

Brands, a Sheldon, Iowa, native, was a legendary Hawkeye wrestler before entering the coaching ranks.

Brands wrestled for the Hawkeyes under legendary Head Coach Dan Gable, and was a four-time All-American and a three-time National Champion (1989-1992).

After beginning the season with a 8-3 dual record, with losses against No. 4 Ohio State, No. 6 Iowa State, and a crushing 32-3 loss against No. 1 Penn State, Brands was stuck at 299 wins during his Iowa coaching career.

That all changed in a dual against Nebraska in Lincoln.

Brands earned win No. 300 in his hall-of-fame Iowa career

Iowa started off hot against No. 6 Nebraska, with Joey Cruz getting the start at 125 pounds and earning the 4-2 victory over Alan Koehler.

Senior Drake Ayala finally got back on track after dropping to No. 10 overall at 133 pounds this season, earning a commanding 12-6 victory over No. 8 overall Jacob Van Dee.

The biggest matches of the dual were at 149 pounds, where Ryder Block pinned Chaz Lamer, and at 157 pounds, where Michael Caliendo earned a 14-4 major decision over LJ Araujo.

Both wrestlers earned bonus points, which ended up deciding the dual.

Iowa ultimately won six of the 10 duals against Nebraska on Friday night, securing a 22-14 win against their rivals in Lincoln.

Even with all the external noise surrounding Brands and the program, his wrestlers have his back 100 percent.

Following his win over Chaz Lamer, Ryder Block said, "He's got guys on the team that believe in him. We've got 30 guys in that room that believe in Tom Brands."

After securing a victory over Nebraska, Brands now owns a 300-31-1 overall record with the Hawkeyes, and will look to add to that tally against Minnesota on January 31.
