After an exciting debut in 2025, the Golden State Valkyries have made some head-scratching moves lately.

Following the 2024 expansion draft, the Valkyries had a solid 2025 season, finishing with a 23-21 overall record and just sneaking into the playoffs as an eight-seed.

All their success in their inaugural season has now heightened expectations, and fans have been voicing their displeasure with some recent decisions.

Kate Martin is the latest casualty of Golden States questionable choices

The organization drafted talented guard Flau'jae Johnson in the 2026 WNBA Draft before making the questionable decision to trade her to Seattle for Marta Suarez.

After trading for Suarez on draft night, they promptly waived her, and have waived a former Hawkeye in a string of questionable decisions.

The Valkyries announced they are waiving former Hawkeye star Kate Martin after selecting her in the 2024 WNBA expansion draft.

Martin carved out a solid bench role during her rookie season with the Las Vegas Aces in 2024 before heading to Golden State.

Last season for the Valkyries, Martin played in all 42 games with four starts, and averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game.

The organization still has not commented on Martin's release, but after she suffered a Grade II right quad strain during an April 28 practice, and with six guards listed on their opening-day roster, they made the move.

If Martin's injury heals properly, she can make a valuable addition to any organization, and all Hawkeye fans would love to see her end up in Indiana with her good friend, Caitlin Clark.
