After taking down Nebraska in Lincoln earlier this week, the Hawkeyes were on the road again to take on a struggling Purdue squad in West Lafayette.
Iowa was already missing starting guard Taylor McCabe, and minutes before tipoff against the Boilermakers, it was announced that Hannah Stuelke would miss at least one game with an upper-body injury.
Stuelke's loss is a big blow to the squad, but they didn't seem to miss her very much against a weak Purdue squad.
Jan Jensen inserted freshman Journey Houston into the starting lineup, and the team didn't skip a beat with a commanding 83-74 victory over Purdue.
It got a little dicey in the second half, but the result was never in doubt as guard Taylor Stremlow notched a career high in points to help push Iowa over the finish line.
Stremlow set a career high in points in back-to-back games
Iowa was paced once again by Ava Heiden, who notched her seventh double-double of the season with a 21-point, 13-rebound performance against Purdue.
Houston also made the most of her first career start, adding 16 points and five rebounds in the win, but the play of Taylor Stremlow has given Iowa a whole new dimension to its offense.
Stremlow set a new career high in points scored with 17 in an Iowa win over Nebraska earlier in the week, and outdid herself against Purdue.
Stremlow scored all 19 of her points in the first half, setting a new career high, while also adding eight assists and three rebounds.
Head coach Jan Jensen initially inserted freshman Addie Deal into the starting lineup for the squad's first few games without McCabe, but Stremlow has now taken that spot for the time being.
Iowa heads back home for an extremely important matchup against No. 6 Michigan this weekend, with a chance to take back second place in the Big Ten standings and add another Quad 1 win to its resume.
