A former stalwart and heavy-hitter in the Hawkeyes' secondary has carved out a nice career in the NFL.

Before heading to the NFL, in 30 games (26 starts) for the Hawkeyes from 2019 to 2022, Belton registered 112 total tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss, and five interceptions

The New York Giants drafted former Hawkeye safety Dane Belton with the No. 114 overall pick in the fourth round, and after a brief stint on the injury list to start his career, Belton has been a staple at the backend of the Giants' defense.

Originally drafted as an outside linebacker or defensive back, Belton has found a home at the safety position, and now has a new home after spending four years with the Giants.

Luckily for Belton, he isn't going far.

The New York Jets reportedly signed Belton to a one-year, $4M deal

According to Jordan Shultz of "The Shultz Report," Belton is staying in New York but is headed to the Jets organization on a one-year, $4 million deal.

The Jets are attempting to bolster their secondary after becoming the only team in NFL history since 1933 (when interceptions became a stat) to not register an interception last season.

Belton is joining a growing safety room after the Jets traded for star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Dolphins.

Belton had his best statistical season last year, registering 120 total tackles, three forced fumbles, two sacks, and an interception.

Ever since missing a few games during his rookie season, Belton has been an ironman, playing in every game since 2022.

The Jets added another weapon to a secondary that massively underperformed last season, and Belton can also help the squad on special teams.
