The long-time voice of the Iowa Hawkeyes has earned another special honor that he probably didn't see coming.
Even if you aren't from Iowa, you know about the legendary Field of Dreams ballpark and the University of Iowa, and now they will be directly linked for the foreseeable future. Legendary broadcaster Gary Dolphin has been the voice of Iowa football and men's basketball since 1996.
From all of his well-known "Touchdown, Iowa!" calls to his legendary call of Alvaro Folgueiras' game-winning shot to send Iowa to its first Sweet 16 since 1987, Dolphin is synonymous with Iowa athletics, and now, his name will be forever linked to the legendary Field of Dreams.
The new Field of Dreams ballpark press box will bear Gary Dolphin's name
"Is this heaven? No, it's Iowa." is one of the most iconic lines in sports movie history, and now the iconic movie ballpark site is adding even more history.

The new Field of Dreams ballpark is currently under construction, but the "Bring it Home" campaign announced they are naming the press box for legendary broadcaster and Iowa native, Gary Dolphin. Dolphin is from Cascade, Iowa, and has been the play-by-play announcer for football and men's basketball since 1996.
In a statement, Ron Kirchhoff, a member of the "Bring it Home" Campaign National Advisory board, stated that Dolphin has been "one of the great voices and ambassadors for the state of Iowa for decades...and honoring Gary there just feels right."
Dolphin's most recent honor is well-deserved and long overdue
Not many people have been in broadcasting as long as Gary Dolphin, and all Iowans have a story about the legendary broadcaster.
My favorite call from Dolphin was during the 2005 Capital One Bowl against LSU. Iowa was holding its own against the heavily favored LSU Tigers all game, and Drew Tate's arm was keeping Iowa in the game.
On what turned out to be the game-winning drive that was later affectionately called "The Catch," Dolphin had one of the most legendary calls you will hear by a college sports announcer. He started off by saying, "Nine seconds left on the clock, and Drew Tate doesn't know that! The game is going to end on this play!"
He followed that by saying he fires downfield and it's caught! And into the endzone, touchdown, Iowa! touchdown, Iowa! Oh my god, I can't believe what I just saw!
Not only was it a legendary play, but it was also a legendary call by one of the best in the business. The "Bring it Home Campaign" definitely made the right decision.
