It is hard to say that a position group got better after losing a star player, but the Iowa secondary may have done just that.

In a strange transfer portal twist, junior captain and rising star Koen Entringer entered the portal and ultimately signed with Louisville.

After clearly stating he would return next season, Entringer did a complete 180 and ended up in Kentucky.

Entringer's absence left a void in the Iowa secondary, but it also created a unique opportunity for the program to add depth.

Through the first nine days of the transfer portal, the Hawkeyes shored up the secondary by adding transfers Anthony Hawkins (Villanova) and Tyler Brown (James Madison), and have now gotten even stronger with the latest portal signing.

Stop us if you have heard this before, but the Hawkeyes locked up another talented defensive back with multiple years of eligibility remaining.

Robert Morris transfer safety Xavier Styles announced that he is committing to the Hawkeyes with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Styles was a productive member of the Colonials' secondary last season, compiling 36 total tackles, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and an interception.

Styles addition gives the Hawkeyes another productive player

After visiting the program last week, Styles immediately committed over the weekend, giving the Hawkeyes another proven playmaker to add to the mix in the secondary.

Styles is better suited to play one of the safety positions and could easily start alongside fellow transfer Anthony Hawkins.

Styles is solid player in pass coverage and has shown the ability to be a thumper in the run game.

He has sneaky speed and athleticism and gets downhill quickly, allowing him to put big hits on opposing offenses.

Styles is a big addition for Phil Parker's defense, and he will make an immediate impact on a depleted secondary.
