Long before Curt Cignetti succeeded this season with underrecruited and underranked prospects, Kirk Ferentz set the standard.

Ferentz and the Iowa program have been models of consistency during his 27 years at the helm, and that remained the case this past season.

After replacing multiple key players on both sides of the ball, Iowa finished with a 9-4 (6-3 Big Ten) record, including its first Bowl victory since the 2022 Music City Bowl.

Recruiting and development is the name of the game for the Hawkeye program, which does not stockpile five-star recruits, and they are attempting to continue their recent run of success by offering a rising two-way talent in the 2027 class.

Iowa offered 2027 Chicago prospect Darrell Mattison

Morgan Park High School prospect and Chicago native Darrell Mattison announced he received an offer from the Iowa program after a conversation with assistant defensive coordinator Seth Wallace.

Mattison is a two-way star for Morgan Park, playing wide receiver, cornerback, and safety for the Mustangs' defense.

Mattison is an interesting prospect because even though he is currently unranked by the three major recruiting networks, he has received growing interest from Power Four programs.

He has received close to 20 offers from Power Four programs, including Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt.

Seth Wallace, Mattison's primary recruiter, suggests the Hawkeyes want to play him on defense at cornerback or safety.

Standing at six-foot-two, Mattison is seemingly better suited to play the safety position, but Wallace and Phil Parker always know how to get the most out of their players regardless.

Iowa's 2027 class has only three players, all from Iowa, and adding Mattison would give them another solid addition to a growing recruiting class.
