While the season has not gone the way anyone hoped, for 28 seniors, Saturday will be the last time they get to play at Kinnick Stadium.
It will be an emotional game for all the seniors, their parents, and coaches as they are honored in front of a sold-out crowd at Kinnick Stadium.
This group of seniors is one of the tightest-knit groups Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has had because of how everything started.
This group of seniors were heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic limiting or completely cancelling their fianl year of high school football, or most of their freshmen year on campus.
In his weekly press conference, Ferentz recalled that they were so limited that it was just the players and no one else, creating a stronger bond than most of the other senior classes had.
Fifth-year senior Ethan Hurkett is a key member of the senior class, and stated that his time in the program has gone "better than expected."
During a portion of his media availability this week (posted by "247Sports"), Hurkett talked about his time on campus and one of his favorite memories during his five years.
Hurkett's favorite memory is going to breakfast with the defensive line group every Thursday morning, and he stated that his time in the program has gone better than expected.
He also mentioned that he has been able to contribute in a way he only dreamed about, making his experience that much better.
In their final home game this weekend, Hurkett is sure the guys will fight for each other so they can finish the season strong.
