After breaking out the brooms in Bloomington, Iowa Baseball has multiple things to celebrate before returning to Duane Banks Field this week.

"Heller Ball" was on full display over the weekend as the Hawkeyes' bats woke up, compiling 28 runs in the three-game weekend series.

The Hawkeyes improved to 26-16 overall, and 10-11 in Big Ten play with the series sweep over the Hoosiers. Before a quick midweek game against Illinois State, the program has a lot to celebrate.

Rick Heller's consistency and determination were rewarded with career win 1,100

The Hawkeyes have been plagued by inconsistency this season, especially on the mound, with the pitching staff currently sporting a 5.96 team ERA, ranking near the bottom of the Big Ten.

Luckily for the Hawkeyes, the bats have been alive and well all season and have propelled the club to seventh in the standings through the early stages of the 2026 season.

One thing that has always been a constant for the program: Manager Rick Heller.

With Iowa's 7-4 win on Sunday, Heller notched career win No. 1,100, putting him in some elite company.

After earning win No. 1,100, Heller moved into fourth place among active managers behind Arkansas' Dave Van Horn (1,333), NC State's Elliot Avent (1,322), and Hawai'i's Rich Hill (1,228).

During Heller's tenure, the program has averaged a solid 32 wins per season and is a consistent threat to make the postseason.

Following a sweep over Indiana, the Hawkeyes have an important five-game stretch at home at Duane Banks Field before heading to Lincoln to take on rival Nebraska in a three-game series from May 8 to May 10.
