If you have ever looked at Iowa position groups and wondered what the CASH position was, well you are probably in the same boat as everyone else. A lot of people think it is an acronym that is short for something, but actually, that is just the name of the position altogether.

Iowa's defensive coordinator Phil Parker has created this position and has had a lot of success with it in a short amount of time. However, the real question is, what exactly is this position?

The best way to describe the CASH position is to say it is a mix of the linebacker and defensive back positions. This player can have the speed and pass-breakup ability of a defensive back, but also the size and grit of a linebacker, making it a scary position to go up against.

Some people want to know if it is more of a defensive back or a linebacker, but only Parker is going to have that answer, but what we do know is that is it an impactful position.

The player who will lead the team in the CASH position for Iowa this season will be Sebastian Castro who had 61 total tackles, eight passes defended, one sack, one forced fumble, three interceptions, and one touchdown in 2023.

Castro had a great 2023 season and with the leadership and presence of Cooper DeJean gone from the defense, Castro has the ability to step up and be a true leader for this team.

Even though Phil Parker's innovative position hasn't been around long, it has caught a lot of steam. Parker's defense has no doubt been the highlight of Iowa's team with how poorly the offense has performed.
