The history behind the Cy-Hawk Showdown: Iowa has dominated the series for years
The in-state rivalry of Iowa vs. Iowa State, otherwise known as the Cy-Hawk showdown has been going on for over 100 years. Even though they haven't played every year since their first matchup back in 1894, this is a matchup fans of each program look forward to every season.
Iowa leads the series 47-23 and these teams are about to meet for their 71st matchup of the series. Iowa has dominated this series, which included a 15-game win streak from 1983 to 1997. Currently, Iowa is also 8-2 in the last 10 matchups of the Cy-Hawk Showdown.
The full name of this rivalry is the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Showdown commemorating the state that is famous for corn. The game is alternated between Iowa City and Ames each year with it being played in Ames on odd-numbered years and in Iowa City in even-numbered year.
Iowa won the matchup last season 20-13 even with a struggling offense, but the defense did what it does best, and that is absolutely dominate teams.
Iowa State was able to pull off a win in 2022 with a 10-7 win in a game where the offense yet again struggled and wasn't able to get the win.
The Hawkeyes are 25-14 when they are playing at home in Iowa City. Cade McNamara will make his second start against the Cyclone and Iowa fans are hoping they will see the McNamara that played in the second half in Week 1.
Phil Parker is going to come out with everything he has against Iowa State's high-powered offense and the elite running game. It will be up to the offense to put points up on the board in order for the Hawkeyes to walk away with the win.
Iowa will go for it's 48th win against Iowa State in the series history in Kinnick Stadium in what will be a terrific matchup.
