It seems like Iowa can only score when backup QB Brendan Sullivan is on the field

There is something very interesting happening in Iowa right now.

With the Iowa offense struggling, especially when they get in the red zone, offensive coordinator Tim Lester has made some interesting changes when the Hawkeyes' backs are against the wall in the red zone.

On Iowa's only touchdown drive in the first half, Lester chose to put backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan in the game on first and goal. Hawkeye fans were ready to see what Sullivan could do, but Lester called for a handoff to running back Kaleb Johnson, who ran it in for a touchdown.

After a couple of stalled drives, including some that led to Iowa going into the half down 14-10 to Troy, the Hawkeyes made it back to the red zone again in the third quarter.

Lester left starting quarterback Cade McNamara in the game for first and goal and second and goal but again made an interesting switch on third and goal. On third and goal, Lester put Sullivan back in the game, and again Hawkeyes fans were eager to see what junior Northwestern transfer could do.

Sullivan snapped the ball and it looked like a designed quarterback run, but as Sullivan faked a turn to the end zone, he pitched the ball to tight end Addison Ostrenga for the touchdown.

Iowa fans are reaching their wit's end with McNamara in at quarterback, so much so that they booed the offense off the field at halftime all the way into the locker room.

Fans have been waiting to see if Sullivan is any better than McNamara and so far, it looks like in this game the Hawkeyes can't score a touchdown without Sullivan on the field.

McNamara did take the field after the touchdown drive, and the Hawkeyes went three-and-out. How much longer will Lester go with McNamara before he makes a permanent change?
