It is official, Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes are heading back to the National Championship in back-to-back seasons. The Hawkeyes will look to have a different ending as they hope to take down fellow 1-seed South Carolina on Sunday.
It was a hard-fought game the whole way in Iowa's Final Four matchup against UConn as the Hawkeyes prevailed 71-69. The game came down to the last possessions with the Huskies hitting a three with about 30 seconds left. After a bad pass from Hannah Stuelke, UConn had the ball back with almost 10 seconds left but was never able to get a shot off when Aaliyah Edwards got called for a moving screen offensive foul.
Clark got fouled on he inbounds and hit her first free throw, but missed her second. Iowa rebounded the ball though never allowing the Huskies to get another possession.
Iowa fans are rejoicing as their team gets to play for a championship for the second straight year.
Stuelke was integral for the Hawkeyes throughout the first three quarters. UConn was able to lock down Clark for most of the game and Stuelke and Martin were able to pick up the efforts.
This is going to be a heavily debated call going forward. In a game where the officiating was odd with refs swallowing their whistles on obvious fouls and then calling ticky-tack fouls, a lot of people wish that a game like that would not have come down to a call like that.
Everyone can agree that this game was great for women's basketball as a whole. It is always fun watching two superstar players and two powerhouse teams go up against each other. Sunday should be another great one for women's basketball as well.
Clark's dad was shown in one sweatshirt as the game started and then when shown later he was wearing a different one. Are you superstitious Mr. Clark? Maybe it worked.
Some Iowa fans might of had doubt when the game was so close in the first half, so I am not totally sure I can believe that one.
Watch out Caitlin Clark haters, she is still around. Iowa will get another chance at the National Championship and they are looking unstoppable. Even on a night when Clark was off her game the majority of the time, the Hawkeyes still found a way to win. Get some rest ladies, the Championship is coming fast.
