Iowa is set to open the season against Illinois State, a team that they have only played once in their program history. The Hawkeyes faced Illinois State back in 2015 where they won 31-14, but that was nine years ago, now it is 2024 and anything can happen.

The Hawkeyes are dealing with more than they thought they would in Week 1 with four suspensions on their team. Two players, Kaleb Brown and Cade Borud, and two coaches, Kirk Ferentz and Jon Budmayr are all serving one-game suspensions to start off the season.

Even without both players and coaches, Iowa is still favored to win and win big. This game is important not just because it is the first game of the season, but because it is time for Iowa to show they can have an improved offense from last season.
