When an opportunity presents itself, you have to take it, and that is exactly what Tyler Goodson has done. The former Iowa running back was not selected in the 2022 NFL after spending three years with the Hawkeyes. He signed as an undrafted free agent after the conclusion of the draft with the Green Bay Packers.

Goodson was waived in August of 2022 but signed to the Packer's practice squad and was elevated to the active roster the following December. However, Goodson never saw the field even though he was on the active roster and was again waived from the Packers squad in August of 2023. Goodson ended up going not too far away from his college town and was signed in September of 2023 with the Colt's practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster in December 2023, but this time he got his first touch of his NFL career against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In that game against the Steelers, Goodson finished with 69 yards on 11 carries in the Colt's 30-19 win. In the Colts game against the Houston Texans with a playoff trip on the line, he did drop a critical pass that led the Colts to lose 23-19 and be eliminated from playoff contention.

However, the 2023 season is behind us, and Goodson is focusing on the here and now, right now, in the 2024 season, Goodson is making the most of a critical opportunity. The former Iowa running back saw his first action of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he had five carries for 26 yards.

Goodson saw action in that Jags game due to an injury to starting running back Jonathan Taylor, and the Colts opted to go with a running back duo in Taylor's absence.

In the last two games, however, Goodson has gotten a few more carries along with fellow backup Trey Sermon. In the Colt's most recent game, however, even Sermon got the start, Goodson saw more carries with 14 for 51 and his first-ever NFL touchdown.

Taylor will make his return to the starting lineup soon, possibly even this week, but with the performance, Goodson has put up in the last three games, he might have just earned himself a few more carries than he had before. Goodson has also been effective in the passing game, with eight receptions on nine targets for 47 yards.

Even though Goodson isn't the starter for the Colts, he is making an impression in the league and building his stats so that at some point he could be the lead back somewhere in the NFL.
