As the new Iowa Men's Basketball coaching staff took shape over the past few months, former Drake assistant coach and Oskaloosa, Iowa, native Josh Sash was one of the first to follow Ben McCollum to Iowa.
Before joining McCollum's staff at Drake, Sash had 20 years of coaching experience, including head coaching experience at Indian Hills Community College (2023-2024) and Des Moines Area Community College (2019-2020).
Sash has settled into the Hawkeye program and spoke to the media after a summer practice this week during an open media availability.
In a portion of his interview with 247 Sports, Sash addressed how he is settling in with the Iowa program and how this job is a dream for him.
Sash grew up in central Iowa and has vivid memories of watching Iowa Men's Basketball and Football with his parents.
Sash is also the older brother of former Iowa Football legend, and 2012 Super Bowl Champion, Tyler Sash, and got to watch the Hawkeyes up close.
He noted that it has not hit him that he is an Iowa basketball coach because he has fully immersed himself in the job.
When asked about how his coaching experience has helped in his transition to Iowa, Sash noted that wearing all those different hats has helped him see everything that goes on behind the scenes.
Sash stated that the different experiences that he has had have eliminated blind spots that come with coaching in various places.
He has always wanted to coach high-level basketball at the Division I level, but never dreamed he would get the opportunity to coach at Iowa.
Sash stated he is fortunate for the opportunity and could not be more excited.
