Mark Gronowski did something we have not seen in 30 years in the loss to USC

While Iowa Football ultimately lost 26-21 to USC on Saturday afternoon, the first half contained some great moments on both sides of the ball.

On the very first drive of the game, Iowa put togteher a seven play, 69-yard touchdown drive that ate up nearly four mintues of the first quarter.

The drive was finished off by a Mark Gronowski touchdown pass to Dayton Howard, and it got the Hawkeyes off to a flying start.

The defense also kept USC's high-powered offense off the scoreboard in the first quarter as everything was going Iowa's way.

Gronowski added another rushing score in the second quarter to give the Hawkeyes a two-touchdown lead, and it was looking like Iowa was going to run away with it early.

After allowing USC to have a sustained drive that lasted nearly six minutes and resulted in a touchdown, the Iowa offense drove down the field one more time, and offensive coordinator Tim Lester opened up his bag of tricks.

Former high school quarterback and current wide receiver for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Reece Vander Zee, took the ball on a reverse and threw a dime to Gronowski for the touchdown pass.

Not only did Vander Zee's touchdown pass restore Iowa's two-score lead, but it allowed Gronowski to accomplish something that had not been done by and Iowa quarterback since 1994.

Gronowski's touchdown catch was the first for an Iowa quarterback in over 30 years.

He also became one of only five Big Ten quarterbacks since 2000 to throw for a touchdown, rush for a touchdown, and catch a touchdown pass in a single game.

Even though Iowa ultimately lost the game, it was a good all-around performance for Mark Gronowski.
