Former Iowa Women's Basketball star Lucy Olsen has had a whirlwind start to 2025. Olsen began 2025 as a member of the Iowa Hawkeyes, made an NCAA Tournament appearence in March, and was drafted into the WNBA in April.
Olsen was critical to the Hawkeyes' success last season. After transferring to Iowa before the 2024-2025 season, she led the team in points (17.9) and assists (5.1) per game. She picked Iowa up when they went on a five-game January losing streak and willed them to the NCAA Tournament.
After being eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Olsen immediately had to prepare for the 2025 WNBA Draft. In the second round of the Draft, the Washington Mystics selected Olsen No. 23 overall.
After the preseason wrapped up, Olsen waited to see if she would make the final roster.
Sources confirmed to Chad Leistikow of the Des Moines Register that Olsen made the Washington Mystics' opening day roster.
Olsen's college resume speaks for itself, but after a difficult preseason, multiple questions surrounded he roster status.
During the Mystics two preseason games, Olsen's numbers were a far cry from her numbers at Iowa. She averaged 2.0 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in two games. The most glaring preseason stat was her shooting percentage.
Olsen shot an abysmal 14.3 from the field in the preseason.
Olsen must quickly acclimate to the WNBA, as the Mystics have their first regular season game at home in Washington, D.C., on Friday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. against the Atlanta Dream.
