After some epic trolling by the Hawkeyes on the sideline during "jump around" at the end of the third quarter, there was never any doubt that Iowa was going to win the rivalry game against Wisconsin.
The game began with a rare penalty before the opening kickoff when a Wisconsin player tried to get in the middle of the Iowa swarm as the players were entering the stadium.
It was all downhill for Wisconsin from there, as the Iowa defense and running attack blanked the Badgers 37-0 to capture the Heartland trophy for the fourth consecutive season.
The Hawkeyes had a great week of preparation during the bye week last week and did not let up on a clearly inferior Wisconsin squad.
After punts by both teams, the Hawkeyes nailed a 32-yard field goal, and immediately forced an interception on the next drive that turned into an Iowa touchdown.
The Hawkeyes did not let up from there, and Head Coach Kirk Ferentz was pleased by the overall team effort in the win.
During Ferentz's brief postgame press conference (posted by the Iowa Hawkeyes), he was adamant that the team had a great week of practice and was well-prepared during the bye week.
He was extremely appreciative of the defensive effort, while also stating they still have many areas to work on.
The defense forced three turnovers, including two interceptions and a fumble, and squeezed the life out of Wisconsin early in the game. Ferentz was pleased with all the takeaways because they hadn't seen an abundance of them this season.
Ferentz also stated that the great thing about all the turnovers was their ability to turn them into points.
While Ferentz praised the defensive effort, he also stated they can improve in some areas, including the rushing defense.
Even though it was not the case, Ferentz stated it felt like Wisconsin had 200 yards rushing at half.
Overall, Ferentz was pleased with the team's performance and credited the squad's determination after a tough loss to Indiana in week five.
