The Iowa offense this season has disappointed at times, but looking at points per game this season compared to last season, it seems like it has actually picked up. Last season, the Iowa offense averaged 15.4 points per game while this season, the new Tim Lester-led offense has averaged 27 points per game.

The Hawkeye offense has scored less than thirty points just twice this season, both of those games were against Iowa State and Ohio State, Iowa's only losses this season. Since Iowa fired Brian Ferentz and hired Tim Lester as their new offensive coordinator, the Hawkeyes have averaged over 10 more points per game.

Now, it should be noted that the offense last season also wasn't led by the quarterback they had planned to use all season. Cade McNamara suffered an injury that put him out for the rest of the season.

This season, however, Lester brought in a whole new playbook and wanted to change the face of the Iowa offense. That was the whole point of bringing in someone new to run the offense. When Ferentz brought Lester in, he did give him the play-calling duties in order to try and revive the offense.

However, it seems like Ferentz hasn't completely given the offense over to Lester with some of the decisions that have been made this season. The decision to keep McNamara in at quarterback, the decision to throw the ball more when the team is losing even though the offense runs solely on the run game, and even when Lester makes some play calls, Ferentz won't trust him and calls a timeout instead.

The fans are starting to rally for the Ferentz to be fired, so giving the reigns of the offense as a whole might help with that. Ferentz has made a lot of questionable decisions with the Iowa team that have led the fans to be unhappy.

Iowa is a team with a lot of potential on offense, and Lester has shown he can elevate the offense more than it has in the past. So if Lester had full power over the offense and Ferentz focused on other parts of the team, maybe things could run a little smoother at Iowa and the fan noise would die down.
