Iowa's first big official visit weekend has come and gone, and the program is starting to rack up the commitments.

The program had 17 official visits during the June 5 to 7 weekend, and anticipation for multiple signings continues to build. Kelvin Bell and the defensive line added explosive athlete Bariyus Allen to the group in an under-the-radar signing with massive potential.

On the heels of Allen announcing his commitment, the program picked up another from a Chicago native and multi-sport athlete.

3-star safety Jonathan Harris committed to Iowa after a successful visit

Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa Football program love recruiting multi-sport athletes, especially wrestlers, and they took a chance by becoming the only Power Four program to offer three-star prospect Jonathan Harris

Harris, an Oak Lawn, Illinois, product, received an offer from the Hawkeyes on Sunday and committed almost immediately. Harris plays defensive back for Brother Rice High School and was a state qualifier at 165 pounds for the wrestling team.

Harris chose the Hawkeyes over Butler, Chicago State, Missouri State, Sacramento State, and Western Illinois. Iowa has a knack for finding hidden talent, especially on defense, and Harris has the potential to be another solid member of the Iowa defense.

He lined up at cornerback and safety last season, showcasing his excellent ball skills and ability to get downhill quickly to help in the run game. He has excellent size for a defensive back (six-foot-two, 170 pounds). Harris was also a productive special-teams contributor. Harris' versatility will be an asset to the Iowa defense, and he will likely start on special teams as he develops in Phil Parker's system.

247Sports currently ranks Harris as a three-star prospect, Illinois' No. 43 overall prospect, the No. 115 safety prospect, and the No. 1,136 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
