The Hawkeyes got their guy!

After just missing out on 2027 No. 2 overall prospect Jake Nawrot following his commitment to Kentucky, the program quickly pivoted to an intriguing dual-threat prospect.

Since offensive coordinator Tim Lester took over, the offense has shifted from a traditional pocket passer to one that can extend plays with its quarterback's legs and impact the running game.

Mark Gronowski was a prime example of that last season, and now the program has a similar quarterback locked up in the 2027 class.

Brayden Santibanez's high upside was a no-brainer for the Iowa Hawkeyes

Iowa's offense still relies heavily on the run, and the program has been trying to find a quarterback like Gronowski to add an extra element to the run game.

That is not to say Iowa will completely change its offensive philosophy, but we have all seen what it's like when Iowa can't throw the ball.

With Gronowski out, Brayden Santibanez has the potential to fill the archetype Lester has been searching for.

The program took a chance on Santibanez, going on limited film from last season, but what he did show got them excited.

Santibanez has a rocket arm and excels at throwing on the run. He is also very athletic and showcased his running ability from the quarterback position last season.

He threw for 1,140 yards and 13 touchdowns, and rushed for 321 yards and five touchdowns last season, showcasing his versatility.

According to a scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins, Santibanez is a "crafty late-bloomer" who can get out of sacks with his mobility.

He also excels in designed quarterback runs and can easily move the chains when he is called upon.

The potential is there, and it will be interesting to see how he develops as a senior after splitting time as a junior.

247Sports currently ranks Santibanez as a three-star prospect, Tennessee's No. 72 overall prospect, and the No. 73 overall quarterback prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
