Undrafted rookie Jay Higgins continues to push for a spot on the 53-man roster. After going undrafted during this year's NFL Draft out of Iowa, Higgins is starting to make a name for himself.
Higgins was a force for the Iowa defense during his final two years in Iowa City after sitting behind star linebacker Jack Campbell.
Higgins racked up 295 total tackles (132 solo, 153 assisted), five interceptions, three sacks, and three forced fumbles in his last two seasons in Iowa City (2023, 2024).
Despite his dominant play, Higgins fell out of the NFL Draft, and was quickly signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a preferred free agent.
Higgins' status on the 53-man roster is not guaranteed as an undrafted signing, but he has impressed the coaching staff during training camp.
Not only has he impressed during training camp and practices, but he also played well in Baltimore's first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts.
Alongside fellow undrafted rookie from Iowa, Nick Jackson, Higgins was ranked as the second-highest graded rookie linebacker during week one of the NFL preseason.
Higgins continued his run of stellar play during the Ravens' dominating 31-13 over the Dallas Cowboys during their second preseason game.
Higgins led the Ravens' defense in tackles with six total (three solo, three assisted), and added one sack, one forced fumble, and one tackle for loss.
After the Ravens' depth chart was released before the preseason games began, Higgins was listed as the third-string linebacker, but he is making a strong case to make the roster with his exceptional play.
The Ravens travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Washington Commanders on Saturday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. Central Time for their final preseason game.
