The Baltimore Ravens finished a perfect 3-0 preseason with a dominating 30-3 win over the Washington Commanders on Saturday.
A perfect preseason does not mean much to some, but it means everything for undrafted rookie Jay Higgins.
Higgins is fighting for a roster spot after going undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, despite a productive college career with the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Even though Higgins went undrafted, he has been turning heads during the preseason and has impressed Ravens' defensive coordinator Zach Orr.
Ravens' DC Zach Orr stated in a recent interview that he is not sure how Higgins went undrafted, but he has the speed and athleticism to play at the NFL level.
Orr also said that he expects Higgins to play in the league for a very long time.
Higgins has shown what he can do during the Ravens' preseason, and capped it off with another solid performance against the Washington Commanders.
During the Ravens' win, Higgins racked up six total tackles (one solo, five assisted) and a quarterback hit.
As a team, the Ravens' defense forced three interceptions, two fumbles, and two sacks during a lockdown performance.
NFL roster cuts begin next week as teams trim their rosters to 53 men in preparation for the start of the season. As an undrafted free agent, Higgins' spot on the roster is not guaranteed, but he has played himself into consideration.
Higgins has proven he can be an anchor in the center of a defense during his time at Iowa and during a brief preseason with the Ravens.
If he does not make the Ravens' roster, there is no doubt he will sign on with their practice squad or get a better chance with another team.
