As July ended and August began, Jan Jensen and the Hawkeyes haven't changed their recruiting strategy.
The 2029 class has been a heavy focus for the program over the past month, with multiple offers to sent to some of the best prospects across the country. Iowa recently offered Kristen Winston, the No. 1 overall prospect in the class, and Bella Swisshelm, Ohio's No.1 overall prospect. Both players are extremely talented guards, and the trend continued with another offer to a top Minnesota guard prospect.

Iowa has identified a clear future need with its latest string of offers, offering multiple guards and combo guards in the 2029 class. With McKenna Woliczko and Ava Heiden in the mix for multiple years, they have pivoted to add more guard depth with another offer to a top-five Minnesota prospect.

Talented combo guard Madeleine Hamiel announced she received an offer from the Hawkeyes after a dynamic freshman season with Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul and with North Tartan on the AAU circuit. Prep Girls Hoops currently ranks Hamiel as Minnesota's No. 2 overall prospect in the 2029 class, right behind Beckett Greenway, the daughter of former Hawkeye great Chad Greenway. Greenway is also her teammate at North Tartan.
As a freshman, Hamiel guided Cretin-Derham to the Minnesota Class 3A State Tournament and a fourth-place finish, including a 34-point outburst in the tournament. Hamiel averaged 15.1 points for the Raiders and has all the potential to continue her upward trajectory in her final three seasons in high school. Hamiel has a smooth jump shot and still has plenty of room for improvement as a shooter. She is also a solid defender and rebounder, notching a 12-rebound game in last year's state tournament.
Hamiel is versatile on both ends and can play either guard spot or the small forward spot, adding to her intrigue as an up-and-coming prospect. She has been slightly overshadowed by Beckett Greenway in the class, but she has plenty to bring to the table and would easily be a great addition for the Iowa backcourt. Versatility is the name of the game in college basketball, and Hamiel brings that. If she can continue her massive upward trajectory, Jensen has already gotten in on the ground floor, which hopefully gives the program an inside track to earning her commitment.
There is still plenty of work to be done in the 2029 class, but the Hawkeyes have continued to ramp up their efforts in the class over the past month.
