One of the biggest question marks heading into this college football season was who was going to line up at the linebacker positions this season for the Hawkeyes.
The combination of Zach Lutmer (Cash), Jaxon Rexroth (Leo), Jaden Harrell (middle linebacker), and Karson Sharar (weakside linebacker) has been stellar over the first few games, putting all the fears to bed.
Outside of a tipped deep pass that was caught, and a sustained drive by Iowa State to set up the game-winning field goal, the defense has been solid over the first two games.
The Hawkeye defense knows it has been playing well, but there is always room for improvement, and they need to keep progressing to have sustained success.
Middle linebacker Jaden Harrell spoke to the media this week about what the defense needs to do in the future.
During a portion of his media availability, which "The Hawkeye Report" posted, Harrell acknowledged that the defense has "obvious things to fix," and they need to keep progressing.
He did mention that he has been impressed with the effort of the defense as a unit, and they have been good at getting to the ball.
All 11 guys have been getting to the ball and doing their jobs, but Harrell wants them to "give a little more."
As good as the Iowa defense has been, they have not forced many turnovers, and if they step up their effort, the turnovers will begin to come.
Harrell and the Iowa defense have been solid to start the season, but he wants them to stay hungry and keep improving as the season progresses.
