A historic ballpark is set to host the Iowa Hawkeyes later this year.
The Hawkeyes had an inconsistent 2026 season, plagued by poor pitching. Iowa ranked No. 178 in team ERA at 6.16, with the bullpen compiling a 5.88 ERA. After a down season from the pitching staff, pitching coach Wes Obermueller left the job and was replaced by Casey Day. Iowa has also been very active in the transfer portal, adding multiple players to boost the infield and pitching staff.
The squad will definitely look different next season and will get a tough early test at one of the most iconic ballparks in the country.
Iowa is set to take on the Kansas Jayhawks at the Field of Dreams in October
The Hawkeyes finished with a 33-23 overall record and advanced to their 11th consecutive Big Ten Tournament, the second-longest active streak in the conference. Kansas had an amazing 2026 season, finishing with a 45-18 overall record, including winning both the Big 12 regular-season and conference tournament titles before winning the Lawrence Super Regional in the NCAA Tournament, and will now head north to battle the Hawkeyes at an iconic site.

Iowa and Kansas are set to play a game at the iconic Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa, during the peak of corn harvesting season in early October. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Central Time on October 10, and will be a tough early challenge for the Hawkeyes. The weather will be cold, and the Jayhawks are a tough team that was the class of the Big 12 last season. The Jayhawks finished with a team batting average of .284, with 112 total home runs, and they were a patient team, drawing 340 total walks in 63 games.
If Iowa's shaky pitching continues next season, Kansas will jump all over them early, and it could be a long game in Dyersville. Luckily for the Hawkeyes, while Kansas was successful last season, their pitchers also struggled, combining for a 5.39 ERA.
