After two great wins over Nebraska and Indiana, Iowa dropped the ball out in Los Angeles against USC. The Hawkeyes needed a solid win against the Trojans to get on more of a role as the season went on, but instead of moving to 4-2 in the conference, they dropped to 3-3 and could have continued to build their NCAA Tournament resume.
Instead, the Hawkeyes stay on the West Coast and will play a struggling UCLA Bruins team that seems to also be struggling with their identity. This is set to be just the ninth meeting of all time between these storied programs.
Fran McCaffery was on the hot seat for a bit last season and if he doesn't want to get back to that point, he is going to need to fix something in this program. The Hawkeyes only have five losses on the season, but three of them come in Big Ten play.
Iowa has a fairly easy stretch in their coming games with Minnesota, Penn State, and Ohio State, but a loss today could put them behind and make these games that much more important.
