The Hawkeyes' recent recruiting strategy has been very clear as they continue their search for a quarterback to add to the 2028 recruiting class.

Kirk Ferentz and company have already offered five quarterbacks in the class, most recently offering rising dual-threat quarterback prospect Jaxson Carper. The program has been pushing to lock up its quarterback option in the class early on in the recruiting cycle, especially after recently hosting the first of three Elite football camps. The camp is already paying off, with the program offering three quarterbacks in the class.

California gunslinger Chase Curren is the latest 2028 QB to receive an Iowa offer

One of the program's primary focuses early in the 2028 recruiting cycle has been the quarterback spot, much to the delite of Hawkeye fans. Iowa's struggles to recruit and develop talented quarterbacks is well-documented, but Kirk Ferentz and company are trying to change that with another offer to a dual-threat QB prospect.

After attending Iowa's Elite camp on June 11, Chase Curren added an offer from the Hawkeyes, adding to his growing list. Curren has steadily climbed recruiting boards after impressing at camps across the country, and his combination of arm talent and running ability is a big reason why.

Rivals currently ranks Curren as a three-star prospect, California's No. 36 overall prospect, the No. 37 overall quarterback prospect, and the No. 438 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, but he has a lot of raw talent that can propel him up the rankings. He has a rocket arm and great speed for his size, and that combination is getting him noticed.

Curren has no problem slinging it downfield and made deep throws look easy during his sophomore year for Crespi High School in Encino, California. He is a pure gunslinger who is not afraid to take chances downfield, but has the arm strength to pull it off. He will need to improve his decision-making to be successful at the college level, but he has the ability to make all the throws.

He is comfortable in the pocket, and he can make accurate throws on the run, something the Hawkeyes have been emphasizing more under Tim Lester. Curren also isn't afraid to tuck the ball and run, showing off good speed when he gets to the outside. He looks a lot like current quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski, with a better arm, and has the potential to be a starter if he continues developing.

Even if Curren commits to the Hawkeyes, the program still has work to do to take the next step offensively, but adding multiple talented quarterback options is never a bad thing. Iowa fans have been waiting for years to see the offense successfully push the ball downfield in the passing game, and if the recent recruiting strategy is any indication, the program is searching for options to do just that.

With the wide receiver corps looking better than it has and a young and talented tight end group, this season is massive for the program to prove it is making strides in the passing game, and those strides will help convince talented quarterback prospects that Iowa is the place to be.
