The Iowa Men's Basketball program is traditionally known for its forwards, but has also produced some solid guards over the years.

B.J. Armstrong, Jordan Bohannaon, and Jeff Hoerner are among the multiple guards who have found success in the black and gold.

This season, transfer guard Bennett Stirtz has the potential to be one of the best guards in Iowa program history, and has already received recognition ahead of the 2025-2026 college basketball season.

Not only was Stirtz tabbed to be one of the best guards in the Big Ten, but he was also named to the preseason All-Big Ten team by "Blue Ribbon Yearbook."

Unfortunately for the Hawkeyes and the men's basketball program, Stirtz has only one year of remaining eligibility and is destined to join the NBA after this year.

As the program continues to rebuild following the exit of long-time head coach Fran McCaffery, Stirtz gives the Hawkeyes an NBA-level talent to start the rebuild.

After Stirtz leaves the program, Iowa will look for other talented guards to fill the void.

This week, the Hawkeyes took the first steps in that pursuit by offering a talented 2027 point guard prospect from Texas.

2027 point guard prospect Chase Richardson announced on X that he received an offer from the Iowa Men's Basketball program.

Richardson, a six-foot-one point guard, currently plays for Friendswood High School in Friendswood, Texas, and is regarded as a top-10 Texas prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.

Rivals has ranked Richardson as a four-star prospect, Texas' No. 5 overall prospect, the No. 15 point guard prospect, and the No. 66 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.

247Sports has ranked Richardson as a three-star prospect, Texas' No. 8 overall prospect, the No. 25 point guard prospect, and the No. 104 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
