Phil Parker and the Iowa defense have an eye for undervalued talent on the recruiting trail, and they might have just found another.

The Iowa defense has been consistently strong with Parker at the helm, and they find success with diamonds in the rough. The program has been adept at identifying talent and developing them in the system, and the results speak for themselves. Iowa has been a top defensive unit in college football for over a decade. The defense has been solid in the first half of the 2026 season and is trying to keep that trend going by offering a versatile, multi-sport athlete in the 2027 class.

Iowa recently offered rising 2027 prospect Daveon Belhomme to add to the defense

The 2027 recruiting cycle is getting late, but Iowa continues its push to add talented prospects. The Hawkeyes currently have 13 committed prospects in the class, but rank near the bottom of the Big Ten overall. Iowa has prioritized defense in the class, with seven of the 13 prospects on that side of the ball, and that trend continued after making a late offer to a versatile defensive back with tremendous upside.

2027 two-way prospect Daveon Belhomme announced he received an offer from the Iowa program, and his game has a lot to like. 247Sports currently ranks Belhomme as a three-star prospect, Florida's No. 111 overall prospect, and the No. 100 overall cornerback prospect in the class, but he has recently been racking up offers from Power Four programs. Over the past month, Belhomme has picked up offers from Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, and Texas A&M, proving he is rising up recruiting boards.

Belhomme is playing his best football as a senior and is considered one of the class's more versatile defensive backs. According to 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins, Belhomme is an instinctive defensive back who makes plays with his timing and ball skills. He knows how to use his hands to throw off opponents' timing, and is poised in zone defenses. He is also quick to help in run support, something Parker and the Iowa defense highly value. Ivins wrapped his scouting report by saying Belhomme should be considered a versatile corner-safety prospect with the potential to be a multi-year contributor for a Power Four program.

Belhomme is definitely a late bloomer, which has likely contributed to his low overall ranking, but he would be a massive signing if Iowa can sneak in late and earn his commitment. The program faces an uphill battle with multiple top programs now entering the mix for his services, and it's easy to see why. He is a twitchy athlete with great ball skills, and he showed off his versatility by scoring a touchdown four different ways in his first eight games this season.

Belhomme is exactly the kind of prospect Iowa excels at bringing in and developing, and he could be a major addition to the 2027 class. Iowa's 2027 class isn't getting much love from recruiting experts, but it has a lot to like, and adding Belhomme would definitely give it a boost.
