While most of the headlines focused on Iowa's dominant 55-0 win over Northern Iowa, multiple Hawkeye sports were in action over the weekend. As we get deeper into fall, multiple University of Iowa sports teams are ramping up, and it was a good weekend across the board.
Iowa Volleyball had a stellar weekend, adding three wins to its record
Iowa volleyball started the 2026 season hot, winning all three games in the Black Knight Invitational in West Point, NY. The Hawkeyes downed Army, Albany, and Sacred Heart, and haven't looked back. Iowa ran into some trouble in the Big Ten/SEC Challenge earlier this year, but has been solid since then. The Hawkeyes had three matches over the weekend during the Quick Star Classic at Xtream Arena in Coralville, and swept all three.
West Florida didn't make it easy on Iowa in their first match on September 18, taking the Hawkeyes to five sets. West Florida won the first set 25-20 before the Hawkeyes woke up. Iowa took the next two sets 25-16 and 25-19 before winning the decisive fifth set 15-10 to take the match.
Iowa's second match of the weekend against Texas Tech was slightly easier, with the Hawkeyes beating the Red Raiders 3-1 in four sets. Iowa took the first set 25-22 before dropping the second set 22-25. Iowa then won both the third (25-20) and fourth (25-19) sets to take the match.
The Hawkeyes capped a perfect weekend with a commanding three-set victory over Central Arkansas, pushing their winning streak to four. Iowa won all three sets 25-12, 25-15, and 25-14, gaining momentum heading into this week.

Iowa Baseball opened the fall with a commanding 12-5 victory over Madison College
The Hawkeyes got off to a hot start, defeating Madison College 12- at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids on September 18. 2025 breakout star Kyle Alivo started for the Hawkeyes and struck out three in two innings. Rick Heller used 13 pitchers across 14 innings, and they combined for 24 strikeouts, 11 hits, and seven walks. Iowa also had a stellar day at the plate, knocking in 12 runs.
Jaylen Ziegler led the Hawkeyes with three hits, tallying three runs batted in. Nathan Hopkins had Iowa's only home run, while Garrett Luett and Gavin De Jesus each added two hits.

Hawkeye guard Dani Carnegie wins gold at the 3x3 Under-23 World Cup
Dani Carnegie was a massive signing for the Iowa Women's Basketball program this offseason, and she continues to show why on the international stage. Carnegie earned a spot on the USA's Under-23 3x3 team and helped guide them to a gold medal in Wuhan, China. Carnegie was a crucial part of Team USA's success this summer, helping them to qualify for the FIBA Under-23 3x3 World Cup, and now helping them win gold.
Carnegie tallied five points and four rebounds in the championship game against Canada after tallying six points in a 21-15 victory over Spain to advance to the gold medal game. Carnegie now returns to Iowa City after signing with the program from the transfer portal. Carnegie averaged 17.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists for the Georgia Bulldogs last season and earned a First-Team All-SEC selection.
The Hawkeyes thumped the UNI Panthers to start the 2026 season 3-0
Iowa didn't have much trouble against UNI in week three, earning a commanding 55-0 victory over an overmatched UNI squad. The offense put up 640 total yards, the 10th most in program history, including 422 rushing yards. Iowa's 422 rushing yards were the most under Kirk Ferentz and the seventh-most in program history. Hank Brown led the way in the passing game, throwing for153 passing yards and two touchdowns in the win.
The rushing attack was the biggest story from the weekend, with three running backs going over the century mark. Xavier Williams (153 yards), Braden Jackson (125 yards), and Nathan McNeil (111 yards) led the backfield, with starter Kamari Moulton and backup L.J. Phillips sidelined with injuries. It was the first time Iowa had three rushers go over 100 yards since 1983.
After mollywhopping Northern Iowa, the Hawkeyes hit the road to Ann Arbor to begin the Big Ten schedule against Michigan in week four.
